Big Green Egg

A green, ceramic BBQ/smoker. I am intrigued. [Big Green Egg]

A buddy of mine has one and he swears by it. Uses less charcoal or wood and the meat is ever so tender.

I work in radio and did a remote where an appliance store was selling one of these. One of the best damn meals I’ve ever had. Every piece of meat was tender, juicy, and melted in your mouth. Too bad you have to sell a kidney to afford one.

kagrocery- While it is true that they are pricey, can you really afford to continue choking down shoe leather off of a blown-out gas-o-matic?

Seriously though, the small (not the mini) egg is pretty affordable and is PERFECT for the urban dweller. As long as fire codes permit in your city, you easily fit the small egg on a back deck or fire escape. And since the fire is completely surrounded by about 2 inches of solid ceramic, there is no concern of accidents (the area of egg that actually houses the coals is COOL to the touch).

At any rate, suffice to say that the BGE kicks ass and I am thoroughly impressed with quality of food that it easily produces.

I understand this thing also makes a kick-ass pizza oven, which is enough to recommend it to me. And I’m a vegetarian.

I’d recommend the Weber Bullet. Significantly cheaper ($150 vs. $719), sturdier, lighter, and you can leave it alone all night while it cooks a brisket.
